Llangollen Valley - 16th July 2007

July and you think it be decent weather in July, but instead we had a rather wet miserable day for our visit into Wales and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct near Llangollen.  Again another location I have never been to.  Me and Mark went down to see the aqueduct despite the weather.  Try and venture across the bridge.

Sadly, I do suffer vertigo, so as you can see from the photo above I didn't get very far across the bridge.  The photo below is a view looking down the valley and the photo next to that is where roughly I got to before I turned around and came back.

I think knowing how I feel about heights.  I didn't do to bad getting as far as did onto the bridge.  And despite the weather being as miserable as it was, it was a nice visit and get some interesting views from the bridge.  Mark got a bit further along the bridge than me to be fair.

Once we had a nosy around the aqueduct from above, we also walked down to the bottom to the River Dee below.  Can't deny bridges can be quiet impressive from below as well.  The feet of engineering that goes into them.  Have a look through the album using the link at the bottom to see more photos.  I would visit again on a nicer day to see the aqueduct in better light conditions.

Could I travel over this.  Maybe in a canal boat, possible.  But it is so high.

Following our visit to Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, we travelled further up the valley to Valle Crucis Abbey.  We didn't actually go into the abbey, but we had a nosy at the exterior of the building before we had a drive up into the hills which was nice.  Not sure where the last photos were actually taking to be honest.  Up some lane up in the hills.  But it was a lovely day out.  Venturing to a place never been before.

If you click on the image below it will take you to the photo album and you can see all the photos I took on the day.

Out Walk : Winter Hill - 1st July 2007

I have done quite a few weeks I might add for Outeverywhere, some maybe included in my archive before this date, but to be honest, I did not record all my photos of all my walks since I started doing Come Out and Walk my walking group which is how me and Mark my partner actually met back in January 2007.

Anyway this walk Winter Hill, is a interesting walk.  Not exactly picturesque, though the picture below is of a set of cottages in Barrow which is a small village not far from Bolton, below Winter Hill where the walk started.

The walk starts fine, but the moorland bit can be sort of boring as it is a simply moorland walk to the top of Winter Hill and the sad thing for this day with the group, the weather turned and it went rather over cast and miserable for a good chunk of the walk which was such a shame.

What is interesting though for some people undertaking the walk, is reaching the top, not today, but on a clear day you can get some great views of the are below towards Greater Manchester, Bolton and Lancashire.  Winter Hill with it's television mast, is one of the iconic landmarks you can see for miles even down here in Cheshire. So venturing to the top can be quite interesting having seen this mast from so many locations across Manchester, Cheshire and other locations, even Wales.
