High Bradfield lies to the North West of Sheffield in a rolling valley littered with reservoirs. Above in the small village of High Bradfield are two supposed Mottes.
Castle Hill lies just to the east of the village with a stunning view over the valley which does make it a interesting location for a motte to be.
Castle Hill, High Bradfield.
It's stated as a supposed motte as sadly their is damage to the surrounding area from agriculture and natural erosion of the land that makes it difficult to state it as a definite motte and lack of records. It's an ideal location for watching the valley.
The second motte we visited is not too far away from Castle Hill.
Bailey Hill, is to the north of High Bradfield, beyond the church. This is a more substantial motte, in that it is not clear to see, steep sided and clearly visible to see. Being the trees without leaves helps see the motte more visible. Both me and Doggo, climbed to the top.
